Welcome to the new "Artist's Circle Of Hell" editorial: a journey through the eyes and thoughts of magnificent Dark Artists.

Today we are delightful to talk with Ewa Kowalik, aka HerBirdtragedy. We are such impressed by her poetical photography and digital art, and are proudly to announce you Ewa will participate in our Grand Opening "Danse Macabre" show, from 4th March!

Ewa was born in Poland (April 1985), now living in Spain. She's a self-taught selfportrait photographer, attracted to melancholic, dark and depressive art. Through composite photos and dark style, Ewa is trying to ask questions about loneliness, meaning, saddness, death and loss.

ree

Big nature lover, storm and landscape hunter. Photography and creation is a way of escape from her everydaylife (currently working as wedding photographer).

Ewa would define her style as "no face", dark, opressive, melancholic and sad. Texturised, attracted to bones and skulls, feminine and delicate.

Enjoy the interview!

First circle - Limbo

How old is your soul? Do you have an inner child?

I am an old soul, sometimes childish, but definitely I am quite an old one.

Second circle - Lust

Before you have reached your artistic path, have you ever instinctively tried different fields that did not appeal to you, just for the sake of it? Are you still in search for your art style?

Yes I did. I tried drawing, I am still writing. I discovered photography not so long time ago and I am still discovering my own style.

Third circle - Gluttony

How hungry are you for the art, for your passion? How much are you addicted and addicted to it, moving away from your perception of reality?

Not at all. When I am creating, I am not thinking about money at all. I am aware that I need to have someone to tell me to put prices, to sell and to earn money. I am happy with just creating. Painfully, this world is not working in this way, so I am doing my best to find the balance between money, creation and art.

Fourth circle - Greed

Sometimes, do you feel greedy with your job? Do you think that a strong attachment to money can compromise your art? No intention to offend, but only to explore what goes beyond being a "starving artist".

I don´t think so and I hope it won´t change. I separated my “work-life” from my “art-life” to avoid this kind of thoughts and temptations.

Fifth circle - Anger

How you see the Art World today? There are some stuff that make you uncomfortable?

I think that Art World is really chaotic, noisy and dangerous. Full of beautiful things, beautiful souls but quite often missing something.

ree

Sixth circle - Heresy

Have you ever done a project or commission totally different from your kind of art? (for example, as fairy art, erotic art, fantasy art or comic art)

Yes. I am still doing it. It´s my day job.

Seventh circle - Violence

Are you afraid to represent cruel stuff of the reality in your art? If not, it goes beyond the simple visual impact?

Yes, I am uncomfortable with it. I think that sometimes symbols and good concept can make much better work than just showing direct object or situation. Half shown images, half said words, shadows, secrets are always the ones that will stay with us longer, forcing us to imagine and to think more.

Eighth circle - Fraud

Without naming, have you ever been deceived by a false customer or company? What was your initial feeling? Do you want to give some advice to those who are new in this field? Don't worry if you do not want to answer.

Yes, I have. From enthusiasm to deception and money lose. Advice? Well… this kind of persons and institutions are really well prepared, so it could be everyone. Get to know other person really well before you start conveying in them.

Ninth circle - Treachery

Would you ever exchange your life as artist with a safer and quieter life? What would you do if you could not make art?

I would not exchange it, I will combine it. Still not sure how, but one day I will do it.

If I could not make art? It is impossible, there are so many ways that art can manifest… I guess I would change the medium and just keep going.
