'The Girl in the Thick Red Water; Part I'
(story format, long version) The Girl in the Thick Red Water - Part II, here. *warning: strong contents*
She can hear them laughing
outside her door
standing under the florescent lights
the hallway around them is empty
beige and white
sanitized plastic everywhere
their pristine white uniforms
and glowing name tags
she knows now
she knows where she is now
The last thing she remembers
as she paces back and forth
in her white-walled cage
are the voices
the screams that were filling her head
and the red
thick red water
she was covered in red, drowning in it
and it was so very very cold
She stops her pacing
and looks down at herself
some kind of gown covering her from head to toe
there aren't any cuts or wounds
and she quickly checks her wrists
no bandages at all
She closes her eyes in relief
then goes back to pacing
back and forth
back and forth
staring at
the barred window in front of her
the stark reminder
of the cage she's in
There's a knock at the door
and quickly
she hides herself
low to the ground in the corner
shocking herself at how quickly the fear set in
the trembling of her gowned body
making slight rasping sounds
on the floor
She looks up
before her stands a tall man, dressed in white
and she has to squint
but finally sees a name - Tim
she can also see that he's talking to her
but she can't hear anything except
his muffled voice
through the hands
that are covering her ears
All of a sudden - she hears someone screaming
a blood curdling
heartstopping
scream
like an animal about to die
The man steps back
and stops talking
making gestures
like she needs to be calm
... it's then that she realizes it's her screams
loud and long
like the howling of some haunted thing
and she can't stop
The tears are brimming in her eyes
and, still holding her hands
to her ears
she just lets them fall
The screaming stops as suddenly as it started
she just collapses
on the floor
sobbing uncontrollably into her hands
she can't make it stop
not the screams
not the sobs
not the shaking
she has no control over anything
except the memories of
the thick red water
She's going numb - and then feels a prick on her skin
the man from before is putting the cap
on a needle
he watches her for a moment
and then turns and slowly closes the door
The sobs are slowing now
and this strange feeling of sleep
has suddenly overwhelmed her
darkness is creeping into her vision
as she blinks once
then twice
and then the blackness consumes her completely
"What happened to her?", the question
coming from one of the nurses
as the man closes the door quietly
and walks back into the hallway
He's very quiet for a long time
and when he looks up
she can see tears in his eyes
"She was found in her shower
the cold water running down on her
musta been for hours -
her skin was almost blue" he stops then
and takes a sip of what must have been coffee
from a broken mug
on the desk next to an old computer
"She kept saying something like
'It's gonna be okay - it's gonna be okay'
over and over
rocking back and forth.
"She was still dressed, but her clothes where
soaked to her skin
and the water running down was red
so very red" he stops again
and looks away quickly
his hands going to his face
obviously having wiped tears
from his eyes
"At first, we couldn't tell where the blood was coming from
but - " he hesitates, as he turns back to face her
tears welling up again
" - when we got her up
we found him wrapped up in a blanket in her lap.
"He was a just a baby - a baby" he whispers, the tears overwhelming him again
and he turns and quickly
walks away
She could hear him keep saying
"just a baby" as he walks
shaking his head as if to deny something
and then disappearing around the corner
Scared of what she'd find
but still needing
to know
the nurse goes to the computer
and types in the
patients name
quickly
"Dear god " she quietly says
as the color drains from her face
and she feels her own tears
trailing
down
her
cheeks
(( .... to be continued ))

The Author
For "Into The Dark World" space, we are pleased to present you a new collaboration with TerriLynn Le Blanc, a wonderful poet that will bring us in a twisted land, full of emotions and darkness...
TerriLynn Le Blanc (aka Yvonne White) was born in Halifax Nova Scotia Canada in 1982. Her father's work made it necessary that her family move quite often throughout her childhood until they finally arrived in Lethbridge, Alberta in 1990. During her formative and teenage years, TerriLynn was prone to being
very introverted and enjoying her own company as opposed to others. This time allowed her to explore
her imagination, draw, and begin writing as well as delving into music.

She drifted in and out of creating stories and writing poetry as well as teaching herself to play piano, but eventually, she began to notice that her motivation for a lot of once enjoyable things was draining away. During her early twenties, things became apparent that not all was right in her mind and by the time she was 30 she had
been diagnosed with several different mental illness' which finally brought to light just why she felt like she was breaking apart and losing bits of herself slowly over time.
While endeavoring to find treatments for her disorders, TerriLynn picked up poetry writing again and found a release for a lot of the darkness she'd been hiding inside from when she was very young. She has since had two of her piece published and currently runs her own Facebook page with over 6,000 followers (to date) which she started in Aug 2017. From there, she continues to write every day, posting at least two new pieces a night all with the goal of reaching out to others who may be feeling what she's feeling and fighting to see the light of day in the dark. Her goal is to be a voice for those who can't express what they feel and to drive away the stigma behind mental illness.
"I want people to finally realize that it really is okay not to 'be okay' and that breaking can be
beautiful ... breathtakingly so." - TerriLynn Le Blanc
